Here’s a short video clip of our version of “Show Me".

In the film, this is the song where Derek gets electrocuted and the amp blows up. The props people brought in another bass, it was an exact replica of the bass I was using, but they had wired in a trip switch along the back of the neck and connected a couple of pyros that were embedded into the body of the guitar, close to the pickup. We rehearsed it so that when I moved into position and at the right time the singer would swing the mike stand and hit the body of the guitar and I was to hit the trip switch which set offs the pyros. We rehearsed it a few times and when the time was right Alan Parker gave the instruction to roll the cameras. It had to be done in one take, there could be no second chances and as it happened it worked out perfect.

Here’s a short video clip of our version of “Hard To Handle”. Otis Redding originally recorded and co wrote "Hard to Handle”, which was released in 1968 as the B-side to “Amen”, shortly after the singer's sudden death in 1967. It also features on The Commitments, Vol. 2: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which included four more songs from the film, as well as seven additional songs performed by the cast.

Belated Happy Birthday to our guitarist Kenneth McCluskey (AKA Derek “The Meatman” Scully).

Here’s a short video clip of The Stars From The Commitments performing “Land of a 1000 Dances”, a great classic that has been covered by many different artists since its first release back in 1962.

It was a big hit especially for Wilson Pickett and the last time that we met him was when we were performing at the Helsinki Blues and Roots Festival in 2004. We mentioned to him that and a lot of The Stars from The Commitments set list are Wilson Pickett songs and he said “not to worry and that we should play them anyway, that he was very proud that a whole new generation would be listening and performing these great songs. At one time people wanted to put this music in to the archives but it was just too good to do that!” Great words from a legend. youtu.be/gX0QjMNYk70 ...

I am really saddened to hear of the news that Alan passed away. He was an absolutely fantastic man with a generosity and talent that is unequalled. I am very privileged to have been given the opportunity to have worked with him and will always be eternally grateful for this life changing event. My deepest condolences to his wife Lisa and family.
